Maamaa Aki | Mother Earth

by Deanna Therriault

The original was completed on 14x17 art paper with acrylic and watercolour paint.

Her branches, like hair, extend. Anishinabek believe that the hair is an extension of the nervous system, it grows down to connect to Mother Earth... hers grows out in all directions to connect us all. She is beautiful, but also old. Her skin is grey, and moss begins to grow. She is tired, but there is still strength to endure. She can travel much longer.

Prints 12x14 on 100lb matte paper.
